Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held a series of high-level meetings with Indian leaders in New Delhi, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional issues.

Dr. Rahman met India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. Prime Minister’s Adviser for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah were also present during the meetings.
Earlier, upon his arrival in the Indian capital, Dr. Rahman held discussions with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

During the meetings, both sides underscored the importance of advancing Bangladesh–India relations across multiple sectors. They also exchanged views on major regional and international developments.
Dr. Rahman stated that the newly elected BNP-led government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would conduct foreign policy based on the principle of “Bangladesh First,” emphasizing mutual trust, respect, and shared benefits.
He thanked the Indian government for apprehending suspects linked to the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi. Both countries agreed that the arrested individuals would be handed over to Bangladesh in accordance with the bilateral extradition treaty.

The Bangladesh side also reiterated its request for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who have reportedly been sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal.

On visa issues, Minister Jaishankar indicated that India would ease visa procedures for Bangladeshi nationals, particularly for medical treatment and business purposes, in the coming weeks.

Dr. Rahman also expressed gratitude to Minister Hardeep Puri for India’s recent diesel supply to Bangladesh and requested an increase in the supply of both diesel and fertilizer. In response, Puri assured that India would consider the request positively.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations on key bilateral matters to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
